Heroes of Kings Game Summary

Heroes of Kings
The group of heroes has been through several challenging adventures. This log begins after they defeated the green dragon Venomfang.
The Lords' Alliance
The group returns to Neverwinter and meets with Dalgut Neverember, the Lord Protector of Neverwinter. The group decided to call themselves The Heroes of Kings.
Neverember offered the party a chance to join the Lords’ Alliance; a coalition of rulers from cities and towns across Faerûn (primarily in the North), who collectively agree that some solidarity is needed to keep evil at bay. As agents of The Lords’ Alliance, the party must act in line with the faction’s beliefs, and perform duties that will earn them renown. There are five ranks in the Lords’ Alliance: Cloak, Redknife, Stingblade, Warduke, and Lioncrown. The Heroes of Kings start as Cloaks. So far, they have earned 3 reknown for stopping the rogue militia and defeating Venomfang in Thundertree.
The party agreed to escort Sariel’s brother Xavier to Gauntletgrym. On the way they encountered a group of Cockatrices attacking a group of people. The party defeated the monsters, but not before Konan, Fargrim, and Sariel were petrified by them. Luckily Spero restored the petrified adventurers after the Cockatrices were vanquished.
As the group approached Mt. Hotenow, they came across the town of Veriglass. The town leader asked the party to investigate the area and stop the disappearances that had been occurring. The party found a lair filled with spiders and other creatures. They encountered the leader, a creature calling herself The Beldam who had plans to create a monster army and take over the land.
The Beldam
The group defeated The Beldam, but she escaped and may still be roaming the area. The party continued to Gauntletgrym and came across a white dragon and a Mountain Giant fighting. The dragon defeated the giant and turned to attack the party. A giant black dragon arrived and chased away the white dragon.
The adventurers safely delivered Xavier to Gauntletgrym. The city was in the middle of celebrations and the group decided to explore the city. Fargrim and Konan received messages that they are needed urgently back and their separate lands. They say their goodbyes and depart Gauntletgrym. Thorin met a Dwarf and agreed to fight in the coliseum battles under House Frostbrand. Thorin won his first two battles but was beaten by a Duergar Barbarian slave named Ivar Ironthew. Ivan won his freedom in the battles. Just as the doubles tournament was going to begin, a demon called a Glabrezu attacked! The group escaped, and went to find Xavier. They found him and began looking for a way to escape the city. They came across Ivar Ironthew and because Thorin was such a fierce opponent, Ivan offered to help the party escape. They only way was to travel to the Deep Gnome city of Blingdenstone.
Blingdenstone is located in the Underdark, a deep, deadly, and vast area far underground.
On their way to Blingdenstone, someone in the party realized that Xavier was acting strangely.
Glabrezu
Xavier was actually the Glabrezu transformed to appear as Xavier. The party fought the demon and defeated it…however Elrond was struck a fatal blow and died.
Ivar told the group that there may be a mage in Blingdenstone who could revive Elrond. The party decided to take Elrond to Blingdenstone and see if he could be revived. They traveled for a full day and finally arrived at the Deep Gnome city. Ivar knew the guard chief who let the adventurers into the main gates and vouched for them so they could get into the city and see the mage. Ivar wished the group well and continued on his way back to his home city.
The Deep Gnome mage, Freveric agreed to help Elrond for 5000 GP and Spiro’s yellow gemstone.
Freveric
The group paid Freveric (out of Elrond’s stash of gold.) Blingdenstone’s king, King Schnicktick, asked the group about their purpose in Blingdenstone. They party told him of their troubles and he allowed them to stay until Elrond was revived and they were healed from their wounds. He also offered them a guide to get them back to the surface.
Elrond emerged from Freveric’s home alive and, sort of well. He had lost some of his memories (XP) and suffered from fatigue (-4 to all rolls, each long rest decreases the penalty by 1.) the adventurers connected with their guide, Wortack and began their journey to the surface.
Several hours into their trek, Wortack told them to stop! He and Sariel heard strange clicking, clacking, and scraping noises. The group moved cautiously forward but were attacked by a group of Hook Horrors! They fought the monsters as best they could. Hashi was knocked unconscious by one and collapsed in a side tunnel.

Troll
An old ally, K'yodus a Drow Rogue arrived to help defeat the Hook horrors. Wortack guided the group back to the surface and took his leave. The party decided to return to Neverwinter to speak with Lord Protector Neverember. Lord Neverember was not pleased that the group left Xavier behind, but luckily he returned safely. The party returned to Lord Neverember's office the next day and he asked them to travel to the town of Greenest and retrieve a family heirloom left to him by his uncle. The Governor of Greenest is Tarbaw Nighthill and is Neverember's cousin. The party agreed and set off to Greenest. The trip along the Trade Way was mostly uneventful. The adventurers met a small group of Dwarf travelers who warned them to stay away from Dragonspear Castle and be wary near The Trollclaws area as there had been trouble reported.
The group continued on and ran across a Troll. Luckily Hashi recalled a bit of information about Trolls and using fire to defeat them. The group was able to kill the Troll and continue on their way to Greenest.
The party continues to travel to their destination. As they top a hill, they see the town of Greenest...in flames and being attacked by a blue dragon! The adventurers jump into action and approach the town. They investigate a large house and discover that it had been looted. As they continue to move though the town, suddenly a man dragging three kids bursts out from around a corner. The man is badly injured and the kids are very frightened. A woman carrying a small shield and a broken spear rounds the corner and turns to face whatever is pursuing them. A few small creatures follow the family. Two small dragon-like creatures appear as well. The party moves up to confront the creatures (identified as Kobolds) and one of them tells Thorin to get his own kills!

Guard Drake
The party attacks and defeats the Kobolds and Guard Drakes. They speak with the woman and she tells them they need to get to the Greenest Keep. The party escorts the family toward the keep. On their way there the group encounters several thugs and cultists. The party is able to fool them, acting like the family were their prisoners. The cultists demanded any loot that the party had.
As the approach the keep, the group runs into another crew. The cultist wants to feed the family to his Guard Drakes. K'yodus shoots the cultist in the face with his hand crossbow and a fight ensued!
The group defeats the enemies and proceeds to the keep. Linan pleads with the guard to let them in while the marauders are distracted. The group barely gets in before the raiders crash the gates. Inside the keep, the party is met by the Captain of the Guard, Urthandar Seafire. After Linan, Urthandar's sister, gives Urthandar reassurances about the group, he brings them to the Governor of Greenest, Tarbaw Nighthill. Governor Nighthill, who is injured himself, explains the situation. Urthandar tells Nighthill that they most likely will not be able to allow any more citizens into the keep. The castellan of the keep Escobert The Red, tells Nighthill about the old tunnel. After the group rests, they speak with Nighthill who asks them to protect the town's grain mill as it seems to be under attack. The party escorts Escobert though the tunnel and they make their way to the mill. They chase away some Kobolds and investigate the inside of the mill. They are ambushed by a group of cultists, guards, and thugs. The party defeats the enemies and captures a Kobold. After a gentle questioning, they let him go. The party returns to the keep and speaks with Urthandar.
The party speaks with Urthandar who asks about the captive they took. The group explained that the Kobold mentioned the leader, but no one could remember her name. Urthandar took the PCs to Governor Nighthill who also asked the group about their captive. They told Nighthill that the captive died. The group is not sure if Nighthill and Urthandar believes them.
The group took a short rest to heal when they were summoned up to the papapet. Word had come in that a group of villagers were trapped in the Temple of Chauntea. Nighthill asked if the party would once again help and attempt to rescue the villagers. The adventurers agreed. They used the river tunnel to stealthily venture out toward the temple. K'yodus scouted ahead and discovered that beyond the 6' wall of the temple grounds, there was a large cloud of smoke at the back of the temple and a steady booming sound at the front of the temple. He also heard the sound of chanting coming from inside of the temple grounds. They made a plan for K'yodus and Elrond to climb over the back wall and the rest of the group to charge the front gate area. As Thorin, Sariel and Spero rushed recklessly into the main gate area, they ran smack into at group of Kobolds, a couple of cultists using a battering ram on the front doors of the temple and a Human Dragon Claw warrior.
Kobolds
At the back, K'yodus deftly scaled the wall and waited for Elrond, who clumsily tried to climb over but fell back...twice! K'yodus used his stealth and the cover of the smoke to sneak in and attack the Kobolds and cultists who were trying to smoke out the people inside the temple.
The group at the front fought the enemies and emerged victorious. They headed toward the back to help their companions and engaged a few Kobolds. As K'yodus fought the enemies in the back area, Elrond tried to run to tell the rest of the party to come help. Unfortunately, he didn't disengage and was hit by an opportunity attack from an enemy...Elrond went down. A few of the Kobolds looted Elrond's unconscious body of all of his loot. One of the cultists ran to the west side of the temple and yelled, "Over here! We are being attacked!" This prompted the large group of Kobolds and cultists to head toward the back of the temple. As three Kobolds turned around the corner, K'yodus yelled that they had killed the attackers' leader and would kill them as well which frightened the three Kobolds who ran back toward the front of the temple.
The rest of the group rounded the corner and joined the fight. Spero also used his intimidation skills to frighten the enemies. Although they didn't turn tale and run, the cultists and Kobolds stepped back and hesitated, giving the heroes a chance to turn the tide. The battle continued and eventually Elrond was revived. eventually, the group was able to defeat the enemies and rescue the people trapped in the temple. K'yodus knocked a cultist unconscious and they were able to take him back to the keep for interrogation. Governor Nighthill was very pleased with the group's success. He praised them and the party noticed a general lifting of the mood in the keep. They took some time to rest when suddenly, the Adult Blue Dragon swooped down and blasted the parapet with its breath weapon. Several guard were killed and a few injured. The group was startled and K'yodus and Sariel were terrified and could not act right away. The rest of the party raced to the parapet and began attacking the dragon. It swooped down again and razed them with its breath weapon, killing a few guards and seriously wounding everyone except K'yodus and Sariel. Eventually They too joined the fight and soon the Blue Dragon was driven away. It dropped down, picked up a loot cart, ate the driver and flew away. The leader of the raid was seen shaking her fist angrily at the dragon.
The night wore on and dawn was approaching. Suddenly, a figure walks out from the shadows. It was a Half-dragon who challenged the people in the keep to send out their mightiest warrior or his Kobold followers would kill a group of villagers. K'yodus stepped out to accept the challenge.
Langdedrosa Cyanwrath
The blue Half-Dragon introduced himself as Langdedrosa Cyanwrath and the battle began! Cyanwrath released his breath weapon to start the fracas. K'Yodus dodged, but still took some lightening damage. K'yodus attacked and got a couple of jabd in with his daggers, but Cyanwrath dominated the fight. K'yodus fell and Cyanwrath raised his spear for the coup 'de gras, and brought it down right next to K'yodus' head. The Kobolds released the villagers and the bandits departed from Greenest.
Governer Nighthill was thankful for the party's service and for K'yodus' sacrifice of battling the Half-Dragon. He offered them rest and recovery and each party member received a Potion of Healing. Nighthill asked the group if they would be willing to track the invaders and try to gather
information. He wanted to know how many bandits, where they have their camp, who the leaders are, and where they plan to attack next. The party agreed. After the rest, they were approached by a an injured monk named Nesim Waladra. He wanted the adventurers to look for his master, a monk named Leosin Erlanthar who may have been kidnapped by the bandits. Leosin was studying the raiders and disappeared during the raid.
The group followed the tracks made by the bandits. The weather was gray and drizzly and soon, Elrond saw a column of smoke rising in the distance. The group creeped up on the stragglers and saw a group of human cultists and a group of Kobolds making camp. K'yodus climbed the steep cliff and dropped a fire potion on the cultists.
A fight broke out and the Kobolds ganged up on Spero. Eventually the Kobolds "ticklish" attacks brought Spero down. He bled out on the battlefield and died. Fortunately, Sariel used her spell Revivify to bring him back. They group was able to wear down the Kobolds and the last one surrendered.
The group interrogated the Kobold and discovered that the leader of the bandits was a "Dragon Lady" named Rezmir. They also learned that the Dragon God Tiamat was going to be released into the material world. The Kobold told them that the camp was a few miles ahead. The group let the Kobold go and traveled toward the bandit camp. They soon approached an area with rocks collapsed on either side of the plateaus. Spero walked ahead and was attacked by a group of guards. The adventurers fought through the guards, leaving none alive.
The group continued to follow the trail of the bandits and eventually found the camp. The bandit camp was located in a horseshoe shaped area surrounded by walls of rock. The top of the area rose about 100 feet above the ground level. At the entrance the party saw a person hiding and watching the camp. K' yodus crept up on the person and held a dagger to his throat. The person was wearing robes and held a long staff. His name is Alric and he was watching the camp to learn what the bandits were up to.
The group decided to walk right into the camp as it was very disorganized. They were able to walk right past the Kobold guards and into the camp. Once inside the group saw that there were about 200 or more bandits including the Kobolds. There was a guard tower at the entrance manned by four Kobolds and the entrance area was where the Kobolds congregated. Several small, beat up huts marked the Kobolds' area. Further into the camp, the party saw the mercenary encampments. Two groups were set up in different areas. The Blue Boars and the Black Fangs. Beyond the merc camps was the cultists' area. A large tent guarded by two tough looking guys holding the leashes of two Drakes stood guard. At the back of the area was a cave entrance also guarded heavily. To the south was an area where prisoners were kept. One man was tied to a structure in the shape of an X. He looked very battered. To the north on a ledge stood another watch tower, this one was manned by two archers.
The adventurers split up to investigate the camp. Spero and Sariel went to speak to the Blue Boars. Spero told them he wanted to join their group. He was told that he first needed to sit for his "cutting". The cutting is where one of the mercenaries carve a shape of a boar into the forearm of a new recruit. Spero became very nervous and instead told them he had to go to the bathroom. He hastily ran away as the Blue Bores laughed and laughed. Andy tried to sneak up to the watch tower, but was turned away by one of the archers. K'yodus and Elrond went to where the prisoners were held. There were two guards standing watch over the prisoners. K'yodus found out by talking with one of the guards that the man tied to the X was of particular interest to Rezmir. Alric and Thorin investigated the large tent and were turned away by the guards. They then went to the cave entrance and were forcibly rebuffed. K'yodus visited the Black Fangs and asked about joining. He was told that he needed to prove his dedication by killing a prisoner. He agreed and slinked away. The party eventually regrouped shared the information they received and created a plan.
K'yodus was going to carry Alric to the top of the ridge where Alric was going to begin casting the Firebolt spell at the Kobold tents and watch tower. Once the chaos began, Sariel and Spero were going to tell the Blue Bores that the Black Fangs had started fires in the Kobold camp. Thorin and Alric were going to tell the cultists that the camp was being attacked, prompting them to move toward the front of the camp.
At the appointed time, the fires began and the plan was put into motion. Rezmir, Frulam Mondath, and Langdedrosa Cyanwrath moved quickly into the cave. The two guards and Drakes moved to the cave as well, which was now guarded by four guards and four Drakes. K'yodus was going to sneak over to the prisoner area and begin shuttling the prisoners up the wall of the plateau so they could escape. Elrond was going to try to convince the guards to investigate the trouble at the front of the camp. Elrond was tongue tied and the guards held their ground. One guard recognized Elrond from Greenest, then attacked Elrond who fought back. K'yodus stealthily killed that guard and the other ran away.  Alric was moving toward the east when he was spotted by the guards in the tower. They began firing arrows at him. Once the back area mostly cleared out, the group began moving toward the cave.
Leosin begged K'yodus to escort the freed prisoners back to Greenest because they were so weak and injured, he felt many, including himself, may not make it back. K'yodus agreed and spoke with the others who also agreed to take the prisoners back. When they arrived, it was still night so the injured prisoners were taken to the healers and Urthandar said they should speak to Governor Nighthill in the morning. The group was able to rest and in the morning they visited Governor Nighthill who informed them that the object his father left to Lord Neverember was safe and actually on its way north. Nighthill thanked the party for infiltrating the bandit camp, gathering information, and rescuing the kidnapped villagers.
Leosin joined the group at Gov. Nighthill's house and told everyone the information he learned. Leosin told the group that he was going to travel north to the city of Elturel to meet with Ontharr Frume, a Paladin of Torm. Ontharr shares Leosin's concern about the Cult of the Dragon's recent activities. Leosin asks the group to return tothe bandit camp and find out what is in the cave. He agreed to reward the adventurers for their duty.
The group traveled back to the camp, and approached from the south side, above the encampment. They noticed that the camp was empty! They climbed down into the camp and noticed that there were still some hunters preparing some meat. The group decided to explore the cave which was now unguarded. They entered and were attacked by some guards who were hiding inside the entrance.
The party defeated the guards and K'yodus explored the SW corner of the cavern and found a hidden passage. He moved through the passage and discovered a cavern that seemingly housed treasure, but was nearly empty. The only thing left in the chamber was a few overturned chests and a seemingly lifeless body. K'yodus continued to explore and heard what sounded like a group of creatures lounging in a room. He decided to go back to the group and tell them what he saw. The group decided to continue toward the east. There was a set of stairs leading down. Thorin sprung a trap on the last stair and fell down into a patch of mushrooms. Spores filled the air and soon Thorin began hallucinating. Spero led him back while K'yodus scouted ahead on the ceiling. He asked Alric to cast the Firebolt spell to burn away the mushrooms and spores. This caused a large amount of smoke which disturbed a large colony of bats.
K'yodus searched a trash dump area and found a lot of discarded clothing and personal items including books, broken baskets, and pottery. K'yodus and Elrond explored an area at the bottom of a set of stairs. At the top of the stairs K'yodus found an old beat up spear. There was a set of large strips of hide attached to the ceiling. Elrond gave the leather strips a quick glance but didn't notice anything strange. K'yodus noticed many metal hooks hidden within the patches of fur on the leather strips. Behind the leather curtain was a meat locker with several sides of meat that smelled like they may be going bad.
The adventurers continued to explore and entered another cavern to the north...and were suddenly ambushed by a pack of Kobolds. Winged Kobolds joined the fight as did a few Drakes.
The group defeated the Kobolds and Drakes and continued to explore. They found the Kobolds' living quarters and discovered many carved dragon sculptures. The group followed a set of stairs down and came to a temple devoted to dragons and the ultimate dragon...Tiamat!
An old enemy, Langdedrosa was there with several guards. As Langdedrosa was making an impassioned speech, K'yodus attacked him and the fight was on! After a few heavy hits (and questionable damage calculations) Langdedrosa went down, dead. One by one the adventurers beat down the guards.
The group searched the bodies and found gold. On Langdedrose's body, K'yodus found several platinum pieces and a special mace. He gave the mace to Sariel and it turned out to be a magical weapon! Spero urged Thorin to knock down the dragon statue which took several minutes and caused a lot of noise.
The group continued to explore and discovered an area that was very hot and humid. As they looked around they were attacked by Kobolds. After the Kobolds were beaten, they explored the lower area of the cavern. K'yodus encountered a creature that resembled a stalagmite. The creature demanded meat so Elrond ran to the meat locker they had discovered before. As he was headed to retrieve meat, he stepped into a trap. He was confused for about a minute, but was able to recover. He returned with the meat which the creature began devouring. As the party continued to search the area, they found two dragon eggs. Suddenly, they were attacked by the Guard Drakes!
The party fought the Drakes and won. The group continued to search and found an additional egg hidden in a pile of rocks. Although Thorin disagreed with taking the eggs, he carried two in his Bag of Holding. Spero carried the third on his back. The adventurers explored the area where they fought Langdedrosa and discovered a ladder leading up into the ceiling. D'Yodus climbed the ladder and the rest of the party followed closely behind. As they looked around the large room, a person stepped out from a room to the north. from another entrance several armed guards stormed in as well. Some of the party recognized the person as someone who was leading the raid in Greenest. She began questioning and group when K'Yodus quickly drew his hand crossbow and fired! Shortly into the battle, the leader cast a Fireball spell that engulfed the group. Some of the party went down but were able to be revived by their comrades. The battle continued and she cast yet another Fireball spell. Again, a few of the party went down and K'Yodus fell from the ceiling.
K'Yodus is dead! Sariel was healed and used her Revivify spell to bring him back to life. Mondath, one of the Wearers of Purple and who led the attack of Greenest, believed the fight was just about over so she told her apprentice to make sure the group was finished off. As Mondath left, she ordered one of her guards to take the dragon egg from Spero (who was unconscious) and follow her out. K'Yodus, Spero, and Elrond were able to catch up with the guard and he surrendered the egg in exchange for his life. However, Mondath escaped.
The group finished off the guards and searched the area. They found some information that Mondath left behind that gave some clues to what the Cult of the Dragon was up to. The adventurers traveled back to Greenest and met with Governor Nighthill. Despite being awakened in the middle of the night, he was pleased that the party made it out alive. He informed the group that Leosin had paid for them to have hordes and gear to travel up to Elturel to meet him and a compatriot. The group stayed the night and rested then traveled north.
The trip to Eltruel was uneventful. As they approached, they saw a bright light suspended above the horizon. As they approached, the discovered that the light was directly above the city of Elturel. The party entered the city and asked around for Leosin. No one knew anything about Leosin, but they did know Leosin's friend, Ontharr Farume. The adventurers were directed to a tavern and inn called A Pair of Black Antlers. Inside they found Leosin and a stout human man with a jolly disposition and who spoke loudly. Leosin introduced the group to Ontharr and he enthusiastically greeted everyone. He arm wrestled Spero and won! Ontharr urged the group to rest and enjoy the city as there was a faire going on for the next few days.
The party attended the faire and participated in several events. Spero was not present for the faire and nobody knew where he was. Lucina won the archery contest, someone named Bruiser won the wraslin' event, Lucina won the Melee Battle, and Andy caught the Lady in Lace (catch the muddy pig).
The group returned to A Pair of Black Antlers and met with Leosin, Ontharr and a few other dignitaries from the region. Again, Spero was absent. The group gave the information they had acquired including the information about the cult traveling north to deliver the loot to Naerytar. Ontharr suggested that the group travel down the River Chointhar to Baulder's Gate ahead of the cultists. The group can disguise themselves and try to join a caravan with the cult to track them to their destination. The party agreed and Ontharr helped them with their disguises and gave them 50 GP each for expenses.
The adventurers went to the river to board the boat to Baulder's Gate...will Spero ever catch up to the party?? Spero did just make it to the boat with the rest of the party. The trip west to Baulder's Gate was uneventful. The group arrived at the dock area near Wyrm's Crossing and walked into Little Calimshan. Sariel was pick-pocketed by some street urchins, but the group caught them and got the money back. Lucina gave the urchins some gold to keep them from having to steal. As they made their way toward the north end of the city, they heard someone calling for help. Sariel moved along to find the source of the problem and found herself ambushed by a band of robbers. The rest of the group caught up and together they beat back the attack.
**NEW** The party traveled to the market area and found out that their contact, Ackyn Selebon runs an outfitting business in the Blackgate area. They found Ackyn and he helped set them up to be included in the caravan with the cultists.
The group stayed the night in a nearby inn, watching for the cultists. The innkeeper asked a lot of questions to which several of the party was willing to give answers. The next day the party decided to scope out Baulder's Gate and watch for the cultists. Thorin, Lucina and Sariel stayed in the market area while Spero, Alric, and Elrond headed to the Basilisk Gate to watch from that point. Sariel moved down to the Basilisk Gate as well to keep and eye on things. Spero had begun playing his flute (poorly) and acting like he was playing for money. Elrond climbed to the top of a building to watch from that vantage. After a few hours, Sariel spotted someone she recognized from the bandit camp. Soon two more came through the gate. The group decided to follow. Elrond had decided to make his way back to the market by climbing across the tops of the buildings. This took him quite a bit longer to make his way back. By the time he made it, the cultists and Sariel, Alric, and Spero had returned. They had found Lucina and Thorin and shadowed the cultists to Blackgate.
The group was able to get themselves mostly hired as guards in the same caravan as the cultists. Lucina caught a glimpse of Rezmir riding in a palanquin and they knew they were on the right track. The caravan headed out and the first few days were quite. As the caravan entered the Fields of the Dead, they came across a wagon with a broken wheel. The wagon owner was trapped behind the wagon by Hobgoblins. The party rushed forward and attempted to help the wagon owner. The Hobgoblins attacked Elrond and th rest of the group moved forward to engage the attackers.

…and here is where our adventure continues.
